How to download Instagram Reels in high quality — 2026

Reels is Instagram's most popular format right now. The problem: Instagram does NOT let you save them. The "Save" option only adds them to your collection inside the app, it doesn't download them to your device. And if you want to use them for editing, reposting or personal archiving, you need an external tool. In this guide I'll show you how to download any public Reel as high quality MP4, with nothing installed.

Why doesn't Instagram let you download Reels directly?

Same reason TikTok adds watermarks: Instagram wants content to stay INSIDE its platform. If you download a Reel and repost it elsewhere, they lose engagement. So they put technical barriers in place.

The good news: since Reels are public videos served from recognizable URLs, a tool like ReelSavr can process that URL and extract the original video.

Step-by-step download

1. Copy the Reel's link

In the Instagram app: open the Reel, tap the 3 dots (bottom right of the Reel or top corner) and choose Copy link. On the web: copy the URL from the address bar, it'll look like instagram.com/reel/XXXXXXX/.

2. Paste it in ReelSavr

Go to reelsavr.net, paste the link in the main input and tap Search video. In a few seconds the Reel's thumbnail and metadata show up.

3. Choose quality

You get 4 options:

4. Download

Tap Download and the file saves directly. The name will be something like reelsavr_reel-title.mp4, with no username watermark, no cuts, no added overlays.

Real quality: what to expect

Let's be clear: Instagram compresses every Reel when uploaded. The quality you see in the app is NOT the quality of the original file the creator had. It already went through a compression pass.

When you download with ReelSavr, we deliver the file exactly as it sits on Instagram's servers. If it looks blurry in the app, it'll look blurry in your download too. There is no way to improve the quality afterwards.

That said, most modern Reels are uploaded at good quality and downloads come out perfectly usable.

Reels from private accounts: the truth

This is important: we CANNOT download Reels from private accounts you don't have access to. By design, out of respect for the creator's privacy. Any tool that says otherwise is lying or doing something sketchy with your credentials.

If you need a Reel from a private account, the ethical option is to ask the creator to send it to you directly.

Works on every device

PC and Mac

Any modern browser. The video saves to your standard Downloads folder.

Android

On Chrome and Samsung Internet, perfect. The video downloads to Download in internal storage.

iPhone / iPad

On Safari, the file saves in the Files → Downloads app. To see it in Photos, open it from Files, tap Share and choose Save Video.

Legality

Downloading Reels for personal use is allowed in most countries. What's NOT allowed:

If you'll use a Reel outside personal use, the right thing is to ask the creator for permission or give visible credit with their @.

Frequently asked questions

Does it work with Reels from private accounts?

No. We only process public Reels. If the account is private and you can't see the Reel on Instagram, you won't be able to download it either.

Can my Instagram account be banned?

No. ReelSavr does not connect to your Instagram account. It processes the public Reel link without touching your credentials.

What about Instagram's watermark?

We deliver the video exactly as it is on Instagram's servers. If the Reel was recorded inside Instagram with effects, those effects stay. The username watermark, however, is not added — only the original visual content.

Why does it sometimes fail?

Instagram changes its protections several times a year. If it fails, wait a couple of hours and retry. Also possible the Reel is from a private account, was removed, or unavailable in your region.
